Chinese recipes are gaining popularity throughout the world owing to the diversity in the collection of recipes and the ease of cooking.  Here is a quick review of a few of the regional cuisines.  Szechwan and Cantonese are favored in western countries.  Other widely accepted Chinese cuisines are Fujian, Jingasu and Anhui.  Chinese recipes are often modified by the Chinese community in other nations by combining the local cuisine with traditional Chinese dishes.

It would be impossible to catalog the whole collection of Chinese recipes in this short article.  However, here are some popular Chinese dishes to try.

* Congee – This is a Chinese porridge.  Congee is usually made with rice, but other grains such as barley, cornmeal, millet or sorghum are sometimes used instead.

* Dumplings – Dumplings are well-liked and Chinese dumplings are the most popular the world over.  Dumplings are stuffed with minced chicken or veggies and cooked by steaming or frying.  The Chinese names for these are “shuijiao,” “jiaosi” and “guotie.”

* General Tso’s Chicken – This dish is a part of the fusion American-Chinese cuisine that is admired in North America, but infrequently consumed in China itself.  Deep-fried chicken is cooked in a sweet and spicy sauce.

The main ingredients for this American-Chinese dish, besides the chicken, are cashew nuts and wine.  Sichuan peppercorns are also added to provide fiery flavor to the recipe.  This dish has been improved in the West to include Western spices and herbs.

* Peking Duck – It is a dish made from glazed roasted duck.  The whole duck is served on the table and carved.  It is usually served with steaming pancakes.  Peking duck also goes well with plum sauce and scallions.

* Soy Egg – This is a hard-boiled egg cooked with a mixture of soy sauce and sugar, along with pungent herbs and Chinese spices.

* Xiaolongbao – This is among the most well-liked of Chinese dishes.  Buns are steamed with meat soup and served with a variety of seafood or sauteed veggies.  The meat soup is made by inserting meat gelatin into the bun prior to steaming, and the gelatin becomes soup during the cooking process.  The buns can be made with either raised or unraised flour.  The unraised flour variety is normally served in southern China.

Chinese cooking is not only trouble-free but there are many appetizing Chinese recipes, as you can see from the above list.  A wonderful combination of sauces, herbs and real Chinese spices is vital for preparing good Chinese dishes.  All kinds of vegetables as well as meats and seafood are used to give sumptuousness and taste to Chinese dishes.
